Temporary Metals Leverage and Weekend Holding Adjustment FAQ
Due to exceptional volatility in metals markets, Top One Trader has implemented a temporary risk adjustment affecting metals leverage and weekend holding rules. This article explains what is changing, why the change is being made, and how it impacts your trading.
Why is Top One Trader making this adjustment?
Recent market conditions in metals such as gold and silver have shown extreme volatility, sharp price movements, widening spreads, and increased execution sensitivity. Major exchanges, including the CME Group, have publicly adjusted margin requirements and risk controls on precious metals products in response to these conditions.
To protect traders from irregular pricing behavior, sudden margin changes, and forced liquidations caused by market structure instability rather than trading performance, Top One Trader is implementing a temporary risk management adjustment.
What changes are being applied?
Effective Friday January 31st at 4:30 PM EST, the following temporary changes will apply:
• Metals leverage will be temporarily adjusted to 1:3
• Weekend holding will be temporarily restricted on all accounts
• All open positions across all instruments, including crypto, must be closed by Friday 4:30 PM EST
Any trades still open at that time may be closed automatically by the system to prevent margin related issues. These automatic closures will not be considered a rule violation or account breach.
Does this apply to all account types?
Yes. This temporary adjustment applies to all Top One Trader accounts, including 1 Step and 2 Step plans.
Are Weekend Holding Add On users affected?
No. Traders who have purchased the Weekend Holding Add On are not affected by the temporary weekend holding restriction and may continue to hold trades over the weekend in line with the add on terms.
Full Weekend Holding Rule at Top One Trader
At Top One Trader, we aim to promote responsible trading and proper risk management. As part of this, we have specific rules around weekend trading designed to protect trader capital and reduce exposure to unpredictable market conditions.
No holding trades over the weekend
For all Top One Trader accounts, trades are not allowed to be held over the weekend unless the Weekend Holding Add On has been purchased.
This means:
• All trades must be closed by Friday 4:30 PM EST
• Any trade still open at 4:30 PM EST on Friday will be automatically closed by the system
This policy minimizes the risk of price gaps and unexpected market movements that can occur when markets reopen after the weekend.
Weekend Holding Add On
If you have purchased the Weekend Holding Add On, you are allowed to hold trades over the weekend. Trades on these accounts will not be closed automatically at Friday 4:30 PM EST.
Crypto trading over the weekend
While traditional markets are closed over the weekend, cryptocurrency markets operate continuously.
The following rules apply to crypto trading:
• All open crypto positions must still be closed by Friday 4:30 PM EST
• New crypto trades may be opened after Friday 8:00 PM EST
• Crypto trades opened after 8:00 PM EST may be held over the weekend
This allows traders to participate in the crypto market while remaining compliant with weekend trading rules for other instruments.
Will this be considered a rule violation or breach?
No. Any automatic trade closures resulting from this temporary adjustment will not be treated as a breach or rule violation.
How long will this adjustment remain in place?
This is a temporary measure only. As soon as market conditions stabilize and metals markets return to more normal volatility levels, metals leverage and weekend holding rules will be reverted to the standard levels outlined in our trading rules.
We will clearly communicate once these changes are reverted.
What should traders do now?
We strongly recommend reviewing and managing all open positions ahead of Friday 4:30 PM EST and planning accordingly to avoid automatic trade closures.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
