Disclaimer

By trading during major news events, you acknowledge the increased risks involved. These risks include slippage, market gaps, delayed execution, and heightened volatility.

Top One Trader is not responsible for losses caused by slippage or execution issues during news events.

Challenge Accounts

During Phase 1 and Phase 2, traders may trade freely during news events.

  • No restricted time windows apply

  • High impact, medium impact, and low impact news may all be traded

  • There are no execution or closing restrictions

Funded Accounts

Funded 2 Step Plus accounts are subject to a restricted news trading window around high impact news events.

  • You may not execute or close trades within

    • 5 minutes before the news event

    • 5 minutes after the news event

The total restricted window is 10 minutes.

What Counts as Executing a Trade

Executing a trade includes any of the following actions:

  • Opening a market order

  • Closing a market order

  • Opening or closing a pending order

  • Modifying a stop loss or take profit

  • Placing buy stop or sell stop orders

All of these actions are prohibited inside the restricted news window.

Holding Trades During News

You may hold trades during a news event if the position was opened more than 5 minutes before the restricted window begins.

However, the following conditions apply:

  • If a stop loss or take profit is triggered inside the restricted window, the trade becomes a violation

  • Any profit from that trade will be removed and cannot be withdrawn

  • Violating the news rule is not a breach on its first offence, the risk team may provide you with a final warning.

Exception, 5 Hour Rule

If a trade has been open for at least 5 hours before the news event:

  • Stop loss or take profit activation inside the restricted window is allowed

  • No violation will be recorded

Manual trade closure inside the restricted window is still prohibited, even under this exception.

High Impact News Events

Only high impact news events are restricted.

  • Low impact and medium impact news are NOT restricted

  • Events must directly affect the traded instrument

All major United States high impact news events affect all trading instruments, including but not limited to:

  • Federal Reserve interest rate decisions

  • FOMC meetings and statements

  • Non Farm Payrolls

  • United States CPI releases

  • Any other high impact US economic announcements

If an event is marked as high impact on FXStreet or RebateFX, it falls under this rule.

Important Notes

  • News rules apply only to funded accounts

  • Profits from violating trades are removed

  • Only high impact news is restricted

  • We look at the FXStreet and RebateFX Economic calender.
